Director's Choice

In keeping with our annual tradition, RHA Director Patrick T Murphy, will guide a group of Friends through the many artworks of the 180th Annual Exhibition and pick out the highlights and his own personal selection of outstanding artworks. This is always an extremely popular event with the Friends and early booking is advised.

Studio Visit Diana Copperwhite ARHA
Saturday 17 July, 2pm

Diana CopperwhiteArtist Diana Copperwhite ARHA has kindly offered the Friends of the RHA the opportunity to visit her Dublin-based studio to take a look at her work-inprogress and talk to her about her art. Diana is an artist whose work is concerned primarily with memory. Her subjects are identifiable, sometimes drawing on media images and at other times from her own experiences, but she plays with lighting and colour to create a slightly unreal dreamlike quality.

The mood of her paintings is generally lyrical and soft with liquid layered surfaces that create an air of ambiguity. She paints over recognisable images, working and reworking the surface so that objects take on the fluid quality of being remembered rather than frozen in real time. Diana is represented by the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin. She has exhibited
nationally and internationally and has received awards for her art including the AIB Art Prize in 2007.

RHA Open Studio Evenings
Tuesday 29 June & Monday 30 August
Meet at 6pm in RHA foyer

Studio VisitAfter the recent successful Friends visit to the RHA
studios we are glad to announce two more upcoming
studio evenings, exclusively for the Friends of the
RHA. The first taking place on 29 June will give the
Friends the opportunity to meet studio artists John
Beattie and Eilish McCarrick and also as promised
during the last studio visit, Joe Coveney will show the
Friends the new work he completed over his four
month residence in the studios.

The following studio open evening will take place at
the end of 30 August with artists Michael Canning,
Siobhan McDonald and Magnhild Opdöl.

The RHA artist studios have a regular turnover of three months and are offered to both emerging and established artists over the course of the year, offering the Friends a wonderful opportunity to regularly visit different artists in their studios, take a look at their work and discuss their art with them, over a glass of wine..

Music in the RHA Performance by Lupo
6pm – 7pm, Thursday 8 July, RHA Atrium

LupoA new vocal project from two of the most exciting voices on the Dublin jazz scene, Lupo features Sarah Buechi from Switzerland and Lauren Kinsella from Ireland. Having just completed their debut record Sessile Oak, this adventurous duo is distinguished by
tight-knit compositions that embrace extended vocal techniques and improvisation. The two singers are guided by strong technique and share an affinity with traditional jazz, western classical music and South Indian Carnatic music, both being former students of the world-renowned R.H. Ramamani. Lupo’s interest lies in diversity, individuality and freedom and this is mirrored in their music’s dramatic extremes of volume, pitch and timbre. Lupo’s approach lies in using the voice as a vehicle for the expression of sound and emotion through words, scat and non-syllabic language. All Friends welcome, no admission fee.
