RHA Christmas Workshop RHA Drawing Marathon
![]() A two-week drawing marathon took place in the newly built group studio at the RHA last November, following the reopening of the gallery and to launch the RHA School studios. Week one was for younger emerging artists, some who have shown in the Annual and others who were invited because of their dedication to drawing. The second week included established artists, Members of the Academy and artists who have exhibited in previous Annual exhibitions. Two models were working at any given time and attendance varied from 18 – 30 people. The intention of the drawing marathon was to inaugurate the tremendous new studio spaces that will be at the core of the schools activities. It afforded artists who usually work in solitary in their studio space the opportunity to work together and of course to socialise together! Mick O’Dea, RHA School Principal Elect has been a Member of the RHA since 1993, when he was elected ARHA and became a full Member in 1996. Having served on the Council and various boards of the Academy including being Treasurer for a year, Mick also has extensive teaching experience at 3rd level having taught in Ireland, the UK and USA. The School at the RHA is committed to ensuring that this generation of artists will have access to a comprehensive training in drawing with particular emphasis on drawing from observation.
