Bruce Arnold has been writing about art since 1962, when he became editor of The Dubliner. He published his Concise History of Irish Art in 1969. It is still in print and sells worldwide. The latest version is in Japanese.
He has written biographies of three great Irish painters, William Orpen, Mainie Jellett and Jack Yeats. In all three - as well as in his history of Irish art - he deals with vital and important episodes in the history of the Royal Irish Academy and its relationship with painters and their work. He has just completed a biography of Derek Hill HRHA and this will be published later this year, in October.
